“When I went to Ben asking for support with a presentation for a job interview, I was just looking for a few tips.

What I got was transformational: he changed my whole approach to communicating my value.

So yes, I got the job!”

“One of the things you told me was, ‘Just slow down and keep it concise.’ It was a game-changer.

Everybody understood me immediately, and it's helped me hold my own ever since. Much of my team has been laid off, so I'm not sure I'd have a job today if you hadn't helped me find my voice.”

"I remember feeling lost with so many systemic problems. You helped me define the ideal outcome first, the North Star, and then work backward. Suddenly, I knew where to start.

I now see how important it is to look beyond what's in front of me. It honestly changed the trajectory of how I approach all my work.”

Getting objective advice at work is near-impossible.

Your colleagues need to maintain harmony with you, so it's hard for them to be honest about your career and work.

You could try and ask your boss, but there's so many things they won't say, like difficult feedback on your communication style, or when it's time to leave.

Why I coach

Ben Sauer

I’m Ben Sauer: a leader, coach, author, and international speaker.

I met my coach Kim early in my leadership journey, when I found myself managing many more people than I knew how to deal with. Very quickly, she was helping me with both day-to-day leadership challenges, and working with me to set long-term goals for myself.

Over time, simply because we were talking every week, I became accountable for meeting those goals. She never needed to ask me about them or apply any pressure: just knowing I had to talk to her once a week made it easier to work towards them. Plus, she helped me to break them down into manageable tasks that never felt overwhelming.

Kim helped me transform into the leader I really wanted to be: someone who helps people unlock answers they didn’t know they already had.

I began to manage my team using the same coaching methods. As I’d spent years listening to people in research sessions, I was quickly able to identify hidden needs and challenges in what I was hearing. As I began to reflect them back, it started to make a radical difference in people's day-to-day work, and ultimately their careers.

I've always found that the highest-leverage skill anyone can develop is their communication. I help people translate their ideas into compelling messages, so they can develop the same skills that turned me into a leader, author and keynote speaker.

From landing a dream job to doubling your salary, I’ve helped dozens of people improve their work and lives through my coaching – and I’d like to help you too.

During sessions

We talk about the challenge and decide what to do.

Whether you’re struggling to create the right solution, dealing with difficult colleagues, or unsure what your next career move is - I can help you find the most helpful insights into your challenges, and help you become the best version of yourself.

My coaching was refined through the I’ve spent years listening to participants in research sessions. When I listen, I notice important things that you’re not saying explicitly, and help you articulate needs and strategies that you weren’t aware of consciously. Real support isn’t about advice, it begins with deep listening.

I’ve helped people to...

  • Land a dream job
  • Leave a dead-end one
  • Double their salary

FAQ

How much does it cost?

Because I coach people internationally, I adjust the per-session cost by locality and seniority. If you're new to coaching, it's worth asking: what would you pay if someone helped you double your salary? Please get in touch for more information.

What happens in each session?

Most sessions begin with a problem you have identified in advance. I spend some time asking you questions about it, and together, we uncover the real problem below the surface. My questions prompt you to explore more deeply, to gain further clarity on how you might approach the problem.

Throughout the session, I make notes and a recording (both available afterwards) so that any follow-up actions we identify can be easily found later. People often leave the session with new strategies to try. Before the next session, I review those notes and where needed, I'll ask you about how effective the previous actions and strategies have been, and if needed, work on them again.

What is different about your coaching?

Communication is the heart of how I help people. Not just communication with others, but communication with self. I strongly believe that our thoughts define our actions, and when we get clear on those thoughts and clarify them in writing, it has a transformative effect on how we interact with the world.

People who are coached by me tend to become much more conscientious communicators. They'll often go from being someone who speaks before they think, to being someone who thinks before they speak - saying much less, but with much better results.

Why coaching, not mentoring?

Coaching helps you to identify your own answers to problem, rather than give you my advice (mentoring). This is a little slower in the short term, but much more effective in the long run. When I help you identify your own answers, they suit you better, and you're much more likely to act on them.

Sometimes, you hit a dead-end, or I'll identify a highly effective strategy that I think you should try. In those cases, I'll check to see if you want explicit advice, before giving it.
